June 20, 2005 - Wilmington, OH

Just kicking back, enjoying some warm weather with low humidity.  Moved to this TTN park on Thursday, had to go into overflow because all the available sites were under trees, and we don't like trees, for obvious reasons (roof-mounted satellite dishes).  Then on Saturday we moved to the site we're enjoying today and will show you in a moment.  But first:

This baby robin perched on our car and posed for Barb.  She thought it had a hairdo similar to mine.  I don't have a clue what she's talking about, of course.  The cute little bird hollered for its mama, but she wouldn't join it, so eventually it flew off.

These turtles are all over the place at Horseshoe Lakes Thousand Trails Preserve, and we were used to seeing them.  Loved the balancing act the little guy was performing.

Now this guy makes for a great story.  We were out taking our morning walk and off in the not-to-distant grass I spotted another turtle and pointed it out to Barb.  She commented that it seemed to have quite a hump on its back, and we carefully approached, making sure we didn't frighten it off.  I told Barb I thought it was a land turtle, a tortoise, and not one of the guys we were used to seeing.  We hustled back to our Road Abode, grabbed the camera, and began taking shots as I approached.  I kept a tree between myself and the turtle so it couldn't see me as I crept up on it.  And then I spotted the little baby right nearby.  This was really exciting stuff, as I'd never seen turtles in any kind of  "family" setting.  How cool!   Then sneaking around the tree I took several more shots.  And then, over Barb's protests, I slowly walked closer......and closer......and closer, keeping the camera going all the time.  And then I spotted it.  A tiny spider web running from the top of the head to the top of the back.  Somebody should have jumped out from behind something at that point and shouted, "GOTCHA!!  HAHAHAHAHAHA!!"  The darn things are fake for crying out loud.  Well, they're real, but made of plastic or something.  They're not alive at all, and we laughed at ourselves all the way home again.  Kept an eye on the 5th wheel they were near so we could tell the owners of the pleasure we'd had, but left before we spotted them.  You can bet that story will be a part of us for a very long time.

And here we are in the Wilmington TTN park.  Wonderfully neat and clean.  Well managed, lots of activities going on, and not a lot of vacancies.  Easy to see why.  We had a great breakfast Sunday morning, cooked by the manager and her recreation director who are both doing what we think is a superb job.

Tomorrow we're going to the theater.  Outdoors.  Complete with horses and all.  Blue Jacket is the name of the play, and it's in its 25th year.  Met Ted and Bev the other day and they'll be going with us.  And then we'll do some sightseeing, assuming I get the shady side of the Road Abode waxed before we leave for Hershey!  Tough schedule, eh?  What a life.
