June 27, 2007 - Lovers Key State Park - Loggerhead Turtle.
This is what we saw when we got there:

And here she is covering up the nest (that's her back end):


The people who had called us and contributed most of the pictures for the Friends of Lovers Key website (link at bottom).

She moved a lot of sand in the process: (that line running through the picture is the boundry line for the shorebird nesting area)



On her way out:




She's in the same position, more or less, but a front flipper is hiding her head. Although not a great shot, it gives some perspective as to the size of the flipper.


Checking for traffic?

She uses her chin to lift her body off the sand.



I liked the way everybody respectfully just stepped back as she headed to the Gulf.








And she's done at last. Applause from the audience was interesting and spontaneous.
